Mycenaean Palace

The Mycenaean Palace of Kadmeia was built in the center of acropolis at the highest point. In the booming years, the main palace along with its annexes and the Acropolis of Thebes was the biggest among all the other Mycenaean palaces and acropolises at that time.

In the modern city the “ Old Kadmeio” constitutes an archaeological site.  It is placed between the social market and Pindarou Street, which is the most crowded street. Parts of an excellent wall painting representing a women’s procession of the Mycenaean period were found there. In a short distance in the southwest of the “Old Kadmeio” just after its destruction, the “New Kadmeio” was built.
