ACTION:OBSESSION
Combination of three works:

- Obsession Sonata no.2 – E. Ysaye:
Prelude – Malinconia – Danse des Ombres et Sarabande – Les Furies
- Passacaglia – Biber
- The Big 5-0 – M. Hindson.

September 2015

Ysaye’s Obsession sonata is interpreted into an act for solo violin and solo dance. Four movements based on prominent themes by Bach and the ‘Dies Irea’ – plainchant from the Catholic Mass for the Dead. The duo will portray the Enigma of the Sphinx by conveying the rawness in emotions of the nature of Man.
Along with it, The Big 5-0 expresses the obsession for the aging Man (big 5-0 refers to the 50th birthday of the Man) with time and his agony of how to manage it.
Finally, we will hear the beautiful Passacaglia from Biber’s Mystery Sonatas, which also treats the idea of obsession engraved in the human soul.

Music for oud and strings. The oud (عود (ʿūd) in Arabic refers to a piece of wood) is known to place temperament in equilibrium, calming and reviving the heart. Just as the walking stick in Oedipus’ answer to the riddle, the Oud’s wooden plectrum assures temperament and equilibrium of sound, through the pure expression of the instrument’s soul. This performance will take us on a human journey, depicting the essence of life itself as an extemporaneous musical composition: a Fantasia.

ACTION: THE STORY OF A SOLDIER – STRAVINSKY

You must not seek to add
To what you have, what you once had;

You have no right to share
What you are with what you were.

One happy thing is every happy thing:
Two, is as if they had never been.

The story tale of trade between the Devil and a Soldier conveys the source of human misery: selling your soul and losing track of everything. The essence of Human Ego is portrayed in this work, as is the drive of human societies: ‘having it all, yet having nothing – nothing at all.’

ACTION: ΤHE RIDDLE OF LOVEO Megalos Erotikos – Manos Hatzidakis

September 2015

The riddle of the Sphinx does not only refer to the material aspect of the human body, but especially to its spiritual characteristics which defer the Man from other living creatures. The human soul is continuously in search for relationships and especially for love. This aspect of the Man is beautifully conveyed in the work Megalos Erotikos by the great Greek composer Manos Hatzidakis. The work is based on an unbreakable circle of songs which treat the essence of love in the most pure and innocent way. The composer has put to music ancient and modern poetry in the most exquisite way.
