Ilektrai Gates
Ilektrai Gate of the seven-gated city of Thebes, in the southeast end of the acropolis, seemed to be the main exit and entrance to Cadmeia from Athens. At the same time, the street leading out from these gates was passing by the Ismenus Hill, like nowadays. Today, we can find remains of the gates in a private site in the middle of one of the most built areas of the urban web, near the city center. In front of these gates the duel between the sons of Laios occurred. Near the gates, in the past few years, the house of Heracles, one of the most famous mythological heroes of Greece, who was born in Thebes, has been found.
